The Police have arrested a 42-year-old man for his suspected involvement in two cases of housebreaking and theft.
On 4 and 5 February 2020, the Police received two separate reports that a house located along Lorong J Telok Kurau and another located along Roseburn Avenue had been broken into respectively. Cash and valuables amounting to a total of about $10,000 were reported stolen from the units.
Through investigations and with the aid of closed-circuit television footage, officers from Bedok Police Division established the identity of the man and arrested him on 5 February 2020.
The man will be charged in court on 7 February 2020 with housebreaking and theft under Section 451 of the Penal Code, Chapter 224, which carries a maximum imprisonment term of 10 years, and shall also be liable to fine.
The Police would like to advise all the public to adopt the following crime prevention measures:
- Secure all doors, windows and other openings with good quality grilles and close-shackled padlocks before leaving your home unattended, even if for a short while;
- Refrain from keeping large sums of cash and valuables at home; and
- Install a burglar alarm, motion sensor lights and closed-circuit television, to cover the access points into your homes. Ensure that they are tested periodically and in good working condition.
