The Police have arrested two women and one man, aged between 32 and 42, for their suspected involvement in selling counterfeit goods.
On 5 March 2020, officers from the Criminal Investigation Department conducted simultaneous raids at Nex Shopping Mall and Jurong Point Shopping Centre, resulting in the arrests. During the operation, 3,392 pieces of trademark-infringing goods comprising bags, pouches, cardholders, wallets and apparel with an estimated street value of more than S$239,000 were seized.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the trio were also selling these counterfeit goods on various online platforms. Investigations are ongoing.
The Police take a serious view of intellectual property rights infringements. Distribution and sale of counterfeit goods are serious offences and the Police will not hesitate to take tough action against perpetrators who profit at the expense of legitimate businesses and consumers.
Anyone found guilty of selling or distributing goods with falsely applied trademarks may be fined up to a maximum of $100,000, or face an imprisonment term which may extend to five years, or both.
