The Police have arrested a 25-year-old woman for her suspected involvement in a case of loanshark harassment along Pasir Ris Street 72.
On 6 March 2020, the Police were alerted to a case of loanshark harassment where the gate of a residential unit was secured with a bicycle lock and a debtor’s note was left behind. Through ground enquiries and with the aid of images from police cameras, officers from Bedok Police Division established the identity of the woman and arrested her on 10 March 2020.
The woman will be charged in court on 12 March 2020 under the Moneylenders Act (Revised Edition 2010). For first time offenders, the offence of loanshark harassment carries a fine not less than $5,000 and not more than $50,000, with mandatory imprisonment of up to 5 years and mandatory caning of up to 6 strokes.
The Police have zero tolerance for loanshark harassment activities. Those who deliberately vandalise properties and cause annoyance and disruptions to public sense of safety, peace and security will be arrested and dealt with severely in accordance with the law.
