The Police have arrested a 35-year-old man for his suspected involvement in a case of voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapon while another three men, aged between 28 and 60, were arrested for their suspected involvement in harbouring an offender.
On 15 March 2020, the Police were alerted to a man carrying a knife in a public place at the vicinity of Telok Blangah Crescent. Preliminary investigations revealed that the man is believed to be involved in an earlier incident where he used a knife to attack a 60-year-old male victim along Telok Blangah Crescent. Through investigations and with the aid of images from police cameras, officers from Central Police Division established the identity of the man and arrested him within 12 hours. A knife was seized as case exhibit. Another three men were also arrested for their suspected involvement in harbouring the 35-year-old man.
The 35-year-old man will be charged in court on 17 March 2020 with voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapon under Section 324 of the Penal Code. The offence carries an imprisonment term of up to 7 years, or a fine, or caning, or any combination of such punishments.
Investigations against the three other men are ongoing. The offence of harbouring an offender under Sec 212 of the Penal Code Chapter 224 carries an imprisonment term which may extend to 10 years and shall also be liable to a fine if the offender’s offence if punishable with death. If the offender’s offence is punishable with imprisonment life, or with an imprisonment term which may extend to 20 years, the offence of harbouring an offender will carry an imprisonment term which may extend to 7 years, and a fine; and if the offender’s offence is punishable with imprisonment which may extend to one year and not to 20 years, the offence of harbouring an offender will carry an imprisonment term of which may extend to one-fourth of the longest term of imprisonment provided for that offence, or a fine, or both.
