The Police have arrested eight men, aged between 22 and 37, in a multi-agency joint operation conducted on 2 April 2020.
The operation was led by Jurong Police Division and supported by officers from the Immigration & Checkpoints Authority (ICA) and the Singapore Customs. The operation covered the forested areas at the Bukit Timah Nature Reserve.
During the operation, two men were arrested for entering Singapore unlawfully while the remaining six men were arrested for remaining unlawfully in Singapore for a period exceeding 90 days.
The Police and ICA take a serious view of attempts to overstay, enter or depart Singapore unlawfully. Under the Immigration Act (Chapter 133), the penalties for overstaying or unlawful entry are a jail term of up to six months plus a minimum of three strokes of the cane.
The eight men were handed over to ICA for further investigations.
