Man Investigated For Advertising And Selling Obscene Materials On Social Media Platforms

The Police are investigating a 27-year-old man for his suspected involvement in advertising and selling obscene materials on social media platforms.

Between 7 January 2020 and 30 March 2020, the Police received two reports of two social media platforms with the same account handle which was advertising and selling obscene materials. Through investigations, officers from Bedok Police Division managed to establish the identity of the man on 3 April 2020.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the 27-year-old man was the administrator of the two social media accounts and had been using both accounts to advertise and sell obscene materials. A mobile phone and a laptop were seized.

Investigations are ongoing.

Anyone convicted under Section 292(1)(a) of the Penal Code (Chapter 224) shall be liable to imprisonment for up to 3 months, or with a fine, or both.

Members of the public are advised not to solicit on any lewd website or join such social media platforms and illicit chat groups. The police takes a serious view of anyone involved in criminal activities and will continue to take tough enforcement actions against those breaking the law.
