The Police have arrested a 28-year-old man for his suspected involvement in a case of dangerous driving.
On 9 April 2020 at about 11.40pm, the Traffic Police received several calls informing that a lorry driver was driving against the flow of traffic along Tampines Expressway. No injuries were reported.
Through investigations and with the aid of images from CCTV footages, officers from the Traffic Police established the identity of the driver and arrested him on 11 April 2020. His driving licence was immediately suspended.
Investigations are ongoing. Under Section 64(1) of the Road Traffic Act, the offence for motorists caught for dangerous driving, carries a fine not exceeding $5,000 or an imprisonment term up to 12months, or both, and in the case of a second or subsequent conviction, carries a fine not exceeding $10,000 or an imprisonment term up to 2 years, or both. In addition, their driving licence may be disqualified.
Driving against the flow of traffic is dangerous and could result in serious or fatal traffic accidents. All motorists are urged to drive safely and to strictly abide with traffic rules and regulations. Traffic Police will not hesitate to take firm action against motorists who choose to flout traffic laws and endanger the safety of other road users.
