The Police have arrested a 33-year-old man for his suspected involvement in a series of cheating cases.
Between 22 January 2020 and 10 April 2020, the Police received several reports of an unknown man who had impersonated as a relative or colleague of the victims. The man had purportedly used the false identity to request victims to top up his pre-paid mobile card.
Through investigations, officers from Bedok Police Division established the identity of the man and arrested him on 11 April 2020. Preliminary investigations revealed that the man had cheated at least seven victims.
The man will be charged in court on 13 April 2020 with cheating under Section 420 of the Penal Code, Chapter 224. The offence carries an imprisonment term that may extend to 10 years, and a fine.
