The Police have arrested a 35-year-old man for his suspected involvement in a case of mischief by fire.

On 12 May 2020 at about 10.40pm, the Police were alerted to a case of mischief by fire along Lorong M Telok Kurau where a molotov cocktail was used to set fire to the front yard of a private residential property.

Through follow-up investigation, officers from Bedok Police Division established the identity of the man and arrested him on 15 May 2020. Investigations revealed that the man and the residents are known to each other.

The man will be charged in court on 16 May 2020 with mischief by fire under Section 435 of the Penal Code, Chapter 224. The offence is punishable with an imprisonment term which may extend to seven years, and a fine.

The Police are also looking at possible breaches of safe distancing measures committed by the man.

The Police do not tolerate such dangerous acts and blatant disregard of the law. We will spare no effort to apprehend such offenders and deal with them severely in accordance with the law.
