The Police have arrested a 20-year-old Singaporean man in connection with the murder of a 38-year-old man at Punggol Field Road which happened on 10 May 2020.

The Police identified and arrested the man on 16 May 2020 at 2.45am following round-the-clock investigations, extensive ground enquiries and expansive review of CCTV footage. The Police would like to thank members of the public for providing valuable information which aided investigations and contributed to the arrest. Preliminary investigations revealed that the man is not known to the victim and is believed to have acted alone. Police investigations are continuing.           

The man will be charged in court on 17 May 2020 with murder under Section 302(1) of the Penal Code, Chapter 224, which carries the death penalty. The Police will work with the prosecution to seek a court order for the man to be remanded for psychiatric evaluation.  

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Investigation & Intelligence) concurrent Director CID Florence Chua said, I would like to commend all the officers who had worked tirelessly to solve this case. Our officers displayed perseverance and tenacity in their investigations, leaving no stone unturned as they pursued all available leads. The solving of this case also reaffirms the close partnership between the Police and the community, and the important role that the public plays in fighting crime. The Police are committed to keeping Singapore safe and we will spare no effort to track down criminals to ensure that they are swiftly brought to justice and dealt with severely in accordance with the law.
