The Police have arrested a 19-year-old man for his suspected involvement in a series of sexual services scams.
On 29 May 2020, the Police received a report from a victim who was purportedly duped into making payment of $140 after responding to online advertisements for sexual services by a ‘woman’. After the payment was made, the scammer became uncontactable.
Through investigations, officers from Bedok Police Division established the identity of the scammer and arrested him on 4 June 2020. Investigation revealed that the man had masqueraded as a woman on an online platform to prey on unsuspecting men. The man is believed to have used the same ruse to cheat at least three other men of a total of $360 between December 2019 and May 2020.
Police investigations are ongoing. The offence of cheating carries an imprisonment term of up to 10 years and a fine.
