A 35-year-old Singaporean man will be charged in court for his suspected involvement in inciting violence on Telegram.

On 30 December 2019, the Police received a report that the man had allegedly posted a comment in a Telegram group chat to rally other personal mobility device users to gather at Punggol Park and cause injury to anyone they see.

Through investigations, officers from Ang Mo Kio Police Division established the identity of the man and arrested him on 31 December 2019.

The man will be charged in court on 15 June 2020 for the offence of making an electronic record containing an incitement to violence, punishable under Section 267C (b) of the Penal Code, Chapter 224. Anyone convicted of the offence of making an electronic record containing an incitement to violence under Section 267C (b) of the Penal Code, Chapter 224 is liable to be punished with imprisonment for a term of up to 5 years, or a fine, or both.

Members of public are advised to refrain from making any form of communication that incites violence. The Police will not condone acts that threaten the safety and security of Singapore and will continue to take tough enforcement actions against those who break the law.
