Man Arrested For Allegedly Cheating An Online Shopping Platform Of More Than $86, 000

The Police have arrested a 22-year-old Singaporean man for his suspected involvement in cheating an online shopping platform, Lazada, of more than $86, 000.

On 16 June 2020, the Police received a report of suspected fraudulent activities on the online shopping platform.

Working closely with Lazada, officers from the Commercial Affairs Department established the identity of the man and arrested him on 18 June 2020. Preliminary investigations revealed that the man, who is an online seller, had posed as a buyer and defrauded Lazada of more than $86, 000. A mobile phone, laptops and two credit cards were seized as case exhibits. 

The man will be charged in court on 19 June 2020. The offence of cheating under section 420 of the Penal Code carries an imprisonment for a term which may extend to 10 years, and a fine.

The Police take a serious view against any person who may be involved in fraud activities and the perpetrators will be dealt with in accordance with the law.
