The Police are investigating a 35-year-old woman who is believed to have lodged a false report.

On 28 June 2020 at about 3.10am, the Police received a report from the woman claiming that her mobile phone was snatched by a group of two unknown men along Simei Street 1.

During the course of investigations, officers from Bedok Police Division Detected many inconsistencies in the woman’s account. Preliminary investigations revealed that the woman had provided false information to the Police and was not a victim of snatch theft.

Investigation against the woman are ongoing. The offence of giving any information which he or she knows to be false to a public servant carries an imprisonment term which may extend to one year, or a fine which may extend to $5,000, or both.

The Police would like to remind the public that police resources could have been put to better use in dealing with real crimes and emergencies than investigating into false reports or false information. Those who lodge false Police reports or provide false information will face serious consequences under the law.
