The police have arrested a 55-year-old man for committing a rash act that endangered the safety of others.
On 21 July 2020, the police were alerted to an incident where a man was seen driving recklessly along Lorong 16 Geylang. Preliminary investigations revealed that the man was believed to have consumed alcohol and was suspected to have intentionally reversed his car towards another person’s car and had hit the car twice, endangering the safety of pedestrians with his actions.
Through ground enquiries and with the aid from police cameras and CCTVs, officers from Bedok Police Division established the identity of the man and arrested him on 22 July 2020. Suspected drug paraphernalia were also seized from his vehicle.
The man will be charged in court on 23 July 2020 with the offence of rash act under Section 336(a) of the Penal Code. The offence carries an imprisonment term of up to 6 months, or fine of up to $2,500, or both. The offence of drink driving under Section 67(1)(a) of the Road Traffic Act, Chapter 276 carries an imprisonment term not exceeding 12 months, or a fine of not less than $2,000 and up to $10,000, or to both.
