The Police have arrested five 18-year-old male youths for their suspected involvement in a case of theft.
On 11 September 2020 at about 3am, police officers from Jurong Police Division were patrolling at the vicinity of Choa Chu Kang North 5 when the officers came across five youths behaving suspiciously at the void deck of Blk 707 Choa Chua Kang Street 53. During the checks, the officers discovered a number of parcels, believed to be stolen from letterboxes, in their possession. They were subsequently arrested for theft with common intention under Section 379 read with Section 34 of the Penal Code, Chapter 224. The five youths are also believed to have damaged six sets of letterboxes in the vicinity of Choa Chu Kang North 5 and Choa Chu Kang Street 53.
Investigations are ongoing. The offence of theft carries an imprisonment term which may extend to 3 years, or fine, or both. The offence of vandalism under Section 3 of the Vandalism Act carries a fine not exceeding $2,000 or imprisonment for a term not exceeding 3 years, and for subsequent convictions, liable to be punished with caning with not less than 3 strokes and not more than 8 strokes.
