The Police have arrested a 26-year-old man for his suspected involvement in a series of cheating cases.
Between 28 August and 3 September 2020, the Police received reports from three victims who were purportedly cheated by a man who pretended to be a deliveryman. The victims were told to make payments, however, the parcels were undelivered and the deliveryman went uncontactable.
Through investigations, officers from Bedok Police Division established the identity of the man and arrested him on 12 September 2020. Preliminary investigations revealed that the man had impersonated as a deliveryman to cheat the victims by accessing the computer system of his former employer, without authorization, to obtain the victims’ online orders which were pending delivery.
Police investigations are ongoing. The offence of cheating carries as imprisonment of up to 10 years and a fine. The man will also be investigated for offences under the Computer Misuse Act.
