The Police have arrested a 33-year-old man for his suspected involvement in a series of e-commerce scams.
Between May 2018 to September 2020, the Police received several reports from victims who were purportedly cheated by an online seller who was providing kompang services in Facebook and Instagram. After payments were made by the victims via bank transfers, the seller became uncontactable.
Through investigations, officers from Bedok Police Division established the identity of the man and arrested him on 7 October 2020. Preliminary investigations revealed that the man is believed to have cheated at least 19 victims of more than $9,000.
Investigations are ongoing. The offence of cheating under Section 420 of the Penal Code, Chapter 224, which carries a jail term of up to 10 years and a fine.
