The Police have arrested a 38-year-old man for his suspected involvement in a case of snatch theft.
On 16 October 2020 at about 1.20pm, the Police received a report from a woman that her gold pendant was snatched from her by an unknown man along Jurong West Street 81.
Through ground enquiries and with the aid of images from Police and CCTV cameras, officers from Jurong Police Division established the identity of the man and arrested him on 19 October 2020.
The man will be charged in court on 21 October 2020 with snatch theft under Section 356 of the Penal Code. The offence carries an imprisonment for not less than one year and not more than 7 years, and caning.
Members of the public are advised to adopt the following crime prevention measures against snatch theft:
- Always be alert and attentive to your surroundings. If you suspect that you are being followed, remain calm and proceed to a more crowded area or call the Police to seek help;
- Avoid wearing excessive jewellery or carrying large sums of cash; and
- Avoid placing your wallet in your back pocket. If you are carrying a handbag, sling it in front of you and ensure that it is fastened or zipped at all times.
