10 Arrested In Enforcement Operation Against Illegal Gambling Activities

The Police have arrested nine men and one woman, aged between 41 and 73, in an enforcement operation conducted by Bedok Police Division along Lorong 14 and Lorong 23 of Geylang on 21 October 2020.

During the operation, nine men and one woman were arrested for gambling-related offences. Cash believed to be gambling proceeds amounting to more than $1,300 and gambling paraphernalia were seized during the operation. They will also be investigated for breach of COVID-19 (Temporary Measures) (Control Order) Regulations for gathering in a group of more than 5 persons. One of the men was also arrested for suspected offences under the Misuse of Drugs Act.

Police investigations are ongoing.

Under the Common Gaming Houses Act, any person found managing or assisting in managing a common gaming house shall be liable upon conviction, to a fine of not less than $5,000 to a maximum of $50,000, and imprisonment of up to 3 years. Persons found gaming in a common gaming house shall be liable upon conviction, to a fine not exceeding $5,000 or to imprisonment of up to 6 months or to both.

Under the Remote Gambling Act 2014, any person who provides unlawful remote gambling services for another shall be liable on conviction to a fine of not less than $20,000 and not more than $200,000 or to imprisonment for a term not exceeding five years or to both.

The Police will continue to clamp down on criminal activities. Those found engaging in such activities will be dealt with sternly in accordance with the law.
