Fifteen Singaporeans Investigated For Non-Compliance With Safe Distancing Measures And One Arrested For Rash Act

The Police are investigating 15 Singaporeans, 12 men and three women, aged between 22 and 40, for non-compliance with safe distancing measures (SDM) under the COVID-19 (Temporary Measures) (Control Order) Regulations 2020. Among them, a 29 year-old man was arrested for rash act.

On 20 December 2020 at about 4.30am, the Police received a report that there were people gathering in a shophouse located along North Bridge Road. When Police officers arrived, the 29 year-old man was allegedly trying to exit the two-storey shophouse via the roof. He was placed under arrest for rash act. Upon further checks, there were 14 other persons found in the shophouse, 10 of whom were hiding on the rooftop.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the 15 persons had gathered to drink alcohol on 19 December 2020. Police investigations are ongoing.

For non-compliance with SDM under the COVID-19 (Temporary Measures) (Control Order) Regulations 2020, offenders may be jailed for up to six months, fined up to S$10,000, or both. Under Section 336(a) of the Penal Code, the offence of rash act carries an imprisonment term of up to six months, or a fine of up to S$2,500, or both.
