The Police have arrested a 27-year-old man for his suspected involvement in a series of cheating cases.

Between 21 and 27 December 2020, the Police received several reports from delivery service providers who were allegedly cheated by the man who abused an on-demand delivery service. The man had pretended to be a seller engaging the victims for their delivery services. He arranged for the delivery service providers to pay an upfront amount to him, which would be compensated to them by his buyers, in addition to the delivery fees incurred.

Upon attempting to make the deliveries, the victims would be informed by the supposed recipients that they had not placed any orders from the man. The victims discovered they had been cheated when the man subsequently became uncontactable and they established that the parcels were not legitimate.

Through follow-up investigations, officers from Clementi Police Division established the identity of the man and arrested him on 30 December 2020.

The man will be charged in court on 31 December 2020 with cheating under Section 420 of the Penal Code, which carries an imprisonment term that may extend up to ten years, and a fine.
