Cycling has become more prevalent as a form of transportation and leisure activity in Singapore. To ensure road safety for themselves and other road users, cyclists are advised to wear the appropriate riding gears, enhance visibility by installing bicycle lights, and adopt safe cycling behaviours and habits, such as keeping a safe distance and riding in an orderly manner.
The Police and the Land Transport Authority would like to remind cyclists to adhere to traffic rules. In particular, it is an offence to ride bicycles or power assisted bicycles on the expressways. The offence carries a fine not exceeding $2,000, or an imprisonment term of up to six months.
Cyclists who use the Global Positioning System and Mobile Map Applications to navigate their cycling routes are advised to check their navigation settings to avoid entering expressways accidentally. (Refer to Annex A for illustration).
