The Police have arrested a 17-year-old teenager for his suspected involvement in a series of cheating cases.

On 26 April 2021, the Police received a report from an e-commerce marketplace that was purportedly deceived into believing that the refund requests submitted by “customers” were authentic. As a result, the company proceeded to refund the amounts to the “customers”. These claims were believed to be fraudulently made by the “customers”, as the items had actually been delivered.

Through investigations, officers from Jurong Police Division established the identity of the teenager involved and arrested him on 10 May 2021. Preliminary investigations revealed that the teenager is allegedly involved in fictitious refunds claims of items worth more than $14,000.

The teenager will be charged in court on 12 May 2021 with cheating under Section 420 of the Penal Code, which is punishable with an imprisonment term that may extend to 10 years, and a fine.
