The Police will be charging a 48-year-old man for allegedly providing false information to a public servant.
On 6 March 2021, the man made a police report informing that one of his workers had stolen cash amounting to $2,800 from his co-worker.
Through follow-up investigations, officers from Ang Mo Kio Police Division detected discrepancies in the accounts given by the parties involved. It was subsequently established that the man had purportedly provided false information to the Police, as he was purportedly angry that the worker had resigned abruptly and wanted Police to locate and intimidate the worker. Investigations also revealed that the man had allegedly instigated one of his workers to provide false statement to the Police to support his claims of stolen cash.
The man will be charged in court on 23 June 2021 for an offence of providing false information to a public servant under Section 182 of the Penal Code and an offence of abetment to providing false information to a public servant under Section 182, read with Section 109, of the Penal Code. The offence of providing false information to a public servant carries an imprisonment term which may extend to extend to 2 years, a fine, or both.
The Police would like to remind members of the public that police resources can be put to better use in dealing with real crimes and emergencies than investigating into false reports or false information. Those who lodge false police reports or provide false information will face serious consequences under the law.
