The Police have arrested a 57-year-old man for his suspected involvement in a case of housebreaking and theft.
On 8 August 2021 at about 1.45am, the Police were alerted to a case of housebreaking at a unit located along Carpmael Road. Cash and other properties were purportedly stolen from the premises.
Officers from Bedok Police Division detained the man along Onan Road within 15 minutes of the reported crime. Cash amounting to $1890 and other properties were recovered from his possession. Preliminary investigation revealed the man is believed to be involved in another similar case of housebreaking and theft in the vicinity.
The man will be charged in court on 9 August 2021 with housebreaking and theft, punishable under Section 451 of the Penal Code. The offence carries an imprisonment term of up to 10 years, and a fine.
The Police would like to advise all property owners to adopt the following crime prevention measures:
- Secure all doors, windows and other openings with good quality grilles and closed-shackle padlocks when leaving your premises unattended, even for a short while;
- Refrain from keeping large sums of cash and valuables in your premises; and
Install a burglar alarm, motion sensor light(s) and/or close circuit surveillance camera(s) to cover the access points into your premises. Ensure that they are tested periodically and in good working condition.
