The Police have arrested a 37-year-old man, for his suspected involvement in a case of armed robbery.
On 24 September 2021 at about 3.15am, the Police were alerted to a case of armed robbery at a shop along Temple Street. Preliminary investigations revealed that the man had allegedly committed robbery by confronting the victims with a knife and demanding cash. Out of fear, the victims complied with the instructions and handed over cash amounting to about $1,000 before he fled the scene with the money. The victims were unhurt.
Through extensive ground enquiries and with the aid of images from Police cameras, officers from Central Police Division and Tanglin Police Division, established the identity of the 37-year-old man and arrested him at Lorong 1 Toa Payoh within 5 hours of the reported crime. A knife was recovered and seized as case exhibit.
The man will be charged in Court on 25 September 2021 with armed robbery, under Section 392 read with Section 397 read with Section 34 of the Penal Code. The offence carries a penalty of not less than three years and not more than 14 years imprisonment, and not less than 12 strokes of the cane.
The Police will spare no effort to apprehend such offenders and deal with them in accordance with the law.

The Police would like to remind the public that harbouring fugitives is a serious offence which is punishable with imprisonment and a fine.
When confronted in a robbery, members of the public should remain calm, take note of the physical appearance and distinctive features of the perpetrator, and call for the Police as soon as possible.
