The Police have arrested a 47-year-old man for his suspected involvement in causing annoyance whilst drunk, using abusive language against a public servant and criminal force to deter a public servant from discharge of his duty.

On 25 October 2021 at about 9.50pm, the Police received a call for assistance in the vicinity of Clementi Ave 5. When officers arrived, the man was allegedly shouting and behaving aggressively whilst drunk, and was arrested by officers. The man purportedly used abusive language against a police officer and allegedly kicked the officer as well.

The man will be charged in court on 27 October 2021 for the following offences:

  1. Using criminal force to deter a public servant from discharge of his duty under Section 353 of the Penal Code. The offence carries an imprisonment term of up to four years, a fine, or both.

  2. Using abusive words towards a public servant under Section 6(3) of the Protection from Harassment Act, Chapter 256A. The offence carries an imprisonment term of up to 12 months, a fine not exceeding $5000, or both.

  3. Causing annoyance whilst drunk, under Section 14(2)(b) of the Liquor Control (Supply and Consumption) Act 2015. The offence carries an imprisonment term of up to six months, a fine not exceeding $1000, or both.

The Police take a stern view of abusive behaviour against public servants and will not hesitate to take action against those who blatantly disregard the law.
