A 24-year-old man will be charged in court on 17 December 2021 with housebreaking and theft under Section 451 of the Penal Code.
On 13 December 2021 at about 10.25am and 2.40pm, the Police were alerted to cases of housebreaking at two business premises located along Paya Lebar Road. Cash amounting to about $350, a handphone, and two cartons of cigarettes were reported to be stolen from the two premises.
Through investigations and with the aid of images from CCTV cameras, officers from Bedok Police Division established the identity of the man and arrested him.
The offence of housebreaking and theft under Section 451 of the Penal Code carries an imprisonment term of up to 10 years, and a fine. A court order will also be sought for the accused to be remanded at Institute of Mental Health.
The Police would like to advise property owners to adopt the following crime prevention measures:
- Secure all doors, windows and other openings with good quality grilles and closed-shackle padlocks when leaving your premises unattended, even for a short while;
- Secure all valuable property under lock and key;
- Refrain from keeping large sums of cash in any premises; and
- Install a burglar alarm, motion sensor light and/or CCTVs to cover the access points into your premises. Ensure that they are tested periodically and in good working condition.
