Man To Be Charged For Providing False Information To A Public Servant

The Police will be charging a 33-year-old man for allegedly providing false information to a public servant.

On 12 December 2021, the Police were alerted to a case where the man allegedly provided false information that his roommate or police officers who had previously attended to an incident at his residence, had stolen cash amounting to $8,000 from his bag.

Through investigations, officers from Bedok Police Division detected discrepancies in the man’s accounts. Preliminary investigations revealed that the man did not have the amount of money he alleged to be stolen to begin with.

The man will be charged in court on 23 December 2021 for providing false information to public servant under Section 182 of the Penal Code. The offence of providing false information to a public servant carries an imprisonment term which may extend to extend to two years, a fine, or both.

The Police would like to remind members of the public that police resources can be put to better use to dealing with real crimes and emergencies than investigating into false reports or false information. Those who lodge false police reports or provide false information will face serious consequences under the law.
