The Police have arrested a 53-year-old man for his suspected involvement in a case of snatch theft.

On 20 January 2022 at about 11.20am, the Police received a report from a victim that her gold necklace and gold pendant were snatched by an unknown man from a residential unit along Jurong West Street 93.

Officers from Jurong Division, Police Operations Command Centre and Police Transport Security Command worked closely together to solve the case. Through ground enquiries and with the aid of images from Police cameras, the officers managed to establish the identity of the 53-year-old man and arrested him along Boon Lay Drive within five hours of the reported crime. The man’s attire worn during commission of the crime was seized in connection with the case, and the stolen pendant was retrieved.

The man will be charged in court on 22 January 2022 with snatch theft under Section 356 of the Penal Code 1871. The offence carries an imprisonment of not less than one year and not more than seven years, and caning.
