The Police have arrested three men, aged between 35 and 42, for their suspected involvement in a case of conspiracy to commit cheating.
On 22 March 2022, the Police received a report where a victim informed that cash amounting to S$20,000 was allegedly snatched away from him by a 36-year-old man whom he had transaction with. The transaction took place at a public carpark along Yishun Avenue 5 and involved the exchange of foreign currency to Singapore currency.
Through extensive ground enquiries and follow up investigations, officers from Woodlands Police Division arrested the 36-year-old man as well as the remaining two men on 23 and 24 March 2022. Preliminary investigations revealed that the three men had allegedly conspired to deceive the victim to transfer foreign currency to them by showing the victim cash in Singapore dollars but did not have the intention to hand over the cash to the victim.
The men will be charged on 25 March 2022 with conspiracy to commit cheating under Section 420 of the Penal Code 1871 read with Section 109 of the Penal Code 1871. The offence carries an imprisonment term of up to 10 years and a fine.
