Six Men Investigated In An Enforcement Operation Against Illegal Horse Betting Activities

The Police are investigating six men, aged between 57 and 75, for their suspected involvement in illegal horse betting activities.

On 26 March 2022, officers from Ang Mo Kio Police Division conducted an enforcement operation against illegal gambling activities along Ang Mo Kio Street 22. During the operation, cash amounting to about $700 and gambling-related paraphernalia were seized.

Preliminary investigations revealed that one of the men had allegedly acted as a bookmaker to the remaining five men. Investigations against the six men are ongoing.

Under Section 5(1) of the Betting Act 1960, the offence of placing bets with a bookmaker carries a fine of up to $5,000, a jail term of up to six months, or both. The offence of being involved in bookmaking under Section 5(3)(a) of the Betting Act 1960 carries a fine of not less than $20,000 and not more than $200,000, and a jail term of up to five years.

The Police will continue to clamp down on criminal activities. Those found engaging in illegal betting activities will be dealt with sternly in accordance with the law.
