The Police will be charging two men, aged 19 and 20, in court on 9 April 2022 with two counts of voluntarily causing grievous hurt by dangerous weapons with common intention each under Section 326 read with Section 34 of the Penal Code 1871.
On 6 April 2022 at 5.02pm, the Police responded to multiple calls for assistance at Block 175 Boon Lay Drive, where the two men had allegedly used bread knives to attack two other men, aged 22 and 23. Preliminary investigations revealed that both victims suffered multiple lacerations to their heads and limbs, and were conveyed conscious to the hospital. The two men allegedly fled and disposed of their weapons before Police officers arrived at the scene.
Officers from the Jurong Police Division and the Criminal Investigation Department mounted an islandwide operation to apprehend the men. With the aid of images from Police cameras and CCTVs, officers arrested both men within 24 hours of the reported incident, at the vicinity of Woodlands Street 12. The two men will be charged in court on 9 April 2022 and the Police will be seeking to remand them for further investigations.
The offence of voluntarily causing grievous hurt by dangerous weapons under Section 326 of the Penal Code 1871 is punishable with life imprisonment; or with imprisonment for a term which may extend to 15 years, and shall also be liable to a fine or caning.
The Police will not tolerate heinous and violent crimes that threaten public safety and will spare no effort to ensure that offenders are swiftly brought to justice. Offenders will be dealt with firmly, and in accordance with the law to safeguard public safety, peace and good order in Singapore.
