The Police have arrested a 42-year-old man for his suspected involvement in a series of theft from vehicles.
Between July 2021 to March 2022, the Police received multiple reports from victims that their cashcards and other valuables such as bags and cash were stolen from vehicles parked at the multi-storey carparks in Hougang, Tampines, Ang Mo Kio, Bedok Reservoir, Sengkang and Yishun.
Through ground enquiries and with the aid of images from Police cameras, officers from Ang Mo Kio Police Division established the identity of the man and subsequently arrested him. Preliminary investigations revealed that the man is believed to be involved in other similar cases.
The man will be charged in court on 9 April 2022 with an offence of theft under Section 379 of the Penal Code. The offence carries an imprisonment term which may extend to three years, a fine or both.
The Police would like to advise all vehicle owners to adopt the following crime prevention measures:
- Install an anti-theft alarm system;
- Do not leave cash and valuables such as cashcards, laptops, handphones, briefcases or wallets in your vehicle;
- Lock all vehicle doors and wind up all windows when your vehicle is parked, even if it is for a short while; and
- Park your vehicle in well-lit areas.
