The Police have arrested two men, aged 46 and 35, and a 31-year-old woman for their suspected involvement in an incident at Tuas Checkpoint.
On 8 April 2022 at about 2.14am, a Malaysia-registered car driven by a 46-year-old male driver, evaded departure clearance at Malaysia’s Komplex Sultan Abu Bakar (KSAB) and entered into Singapore via Tuas Checkpoint, while being pursued by the Royal Malaysian Police. The 35-year-old man and the 31-year-old women were passengers in the same car. The driver allegedly attempted to force his way into Singapore through the automated motorcycle clearance lanes, but the lanes were too narrow and the car was halted after crashing into the counters. As a result of this, an Immigration and Checkpoint Authority (ICA) officer suffered an abrasion on his right ankle. There was also significant property damage caused. The driver was subsequently detained by ICA officers. When the vehicle had eventually halted, the 35-year-old man and the 31-year-old woman purportedly got out of the vehicle and attempted to escape, until they were eventually detained by responding officers.
The 46-year-old man will be charged in court on 9 April 2022 with dangerous driving causing hurt under Section 64 (1) read with Section 64 (2B)(a) of the Road Traffic Act 1961. The offence carries a penalty of imprisonment for a term which may extend to two years, a fine which may extend to S$10,000, or both.
The 35-year-old-man and the 31-year-old woman will be charged in court on 9 April 2022 with Criminal Trespass under Section 447 of the Penal Code 1871. The offence carries a penalty of imprisonment for a term which may extend to three months, a fine which may extend to S$1,500, or both.
The Police have zero tolerance towards such acts of violence against public servants who are carrying out their duties and will not hesitate to take action against those who blatantly disregard the law.
