The Police have arrested three men, aged between 38 and 44, for their suspected involvement in a case of evasion of roadblock and dangerous driving.

On 22 August 2022 at about 3.25 am, officers from Central Police Division were conducting a roadblock along Nicoll Highway towards Mountbatten Road, when three vehicles made three-point turn before the roadblock and drove against the flow of traffic.  The officers immediately initiated a pursuit and managed to intercept one of the vehicles along Syed Alwi Road. The 44-year-old male driver was arrested for dangerous driving and evading a roadblock.

Through ground enquiries and with the aid of images from CCTV cameras, officers from Central Police Division and Traffic Police established the identities of the other two drivers, aged 38 and 44, and subsequently arrested them on 22 and 23 August 2022 respectively. The three vehicles were also seized. Investigations are ongoing.

Anyone convicted for the offence of evasion of a roadblock shall be punished under Section 26(8)(a) of the Police Force Act 2004 which carries a fine up to $10,000, imprisonment up to seven years, or both. The offence of dangerous driving punishable under Section 64(2C)(a) of the Road Traffic Act 1961 carries imprisonment up to 12 months, or with a fine up to $5,000 or with both.

The Police conduct roadblocks to deter and detect crimes. Members of public are advised to cooperate with police officers when approached during roadblocks. The Police take a serious view of persons who evade roadblocks and perpetrators will be dealt with firmly in accordance with the law.
