Eleven Persons Under Investigation For Illegal Betting Activities

The Police are investigating eleven persons, aged between 41 and 69, for their suspected involvement in illegal betting activities.

On 5 October 2022, officers from Woodlands Police Division conducted an enforcement operation at various premises along Woodlands Link and Yishun Ring Road. A 65-year-old man was allegedly found to have acted as a gambling service provider to nine other persons, aged between 41 and 69, at a commercial unit along Yishun Ring Road. A 46-year-old woman was found gambling remotely with an unlicensed gambling service provider at an industrial office along Woodlands Link. About $3,085 in cash, five mobile phones and betting paraphernalia were seized as case exhibits. Police investigations are ongoing.

Under the Gambling Control Act 2022, anyone who is found to be involved in unlawful betting operations shall be liable on conviction to a fine of not less than $200,000 and shall also be punished with imprisonment for a term of up to five years. Under the same Act, any person who gambles with an unlicensed gambling service provider shall be liable on conviction to a fine not exceeding $10,000, imprisonment for a term not exceeding six months, or both.

The Police take a serious view of all forms of illegal betting activities and will continue to take tough enforcement action against those who are involved in such activities.
