In a ceremony held at Public Transport Security Command (TransCom) on 11 October 2022, seven members of the public were commended for their public spiritedness and three staff were commended for their strong community partnership with the Police.
Staff Commended for Community Partnership Award
Mr Mohamad Tahar Bin Manaf and Mr Izhar Bin Mohamed Ibrahim from SMRT Corporation Ltd, together with Mr Tan Kian Ann from Certis assisted the Police in two separate incidents of outrage of modesty and voyeurism.
In the first case, on 31 July 2022, Mr Mohamad Tahar Bin Manaf was able to recognise a man who had committed a case of outrage of modesty on board a moving train based on the description shared through the SMRT Operations Control Centre. He detained the man and called the Police for assistance. The man was subsequently arrested for outrage of modesty.
In the second case, on 26 August 2022, Mr Tan Kian Ann – Transit Security Officer deployed at Clementi MRT station – spotted a man behaving suspiciously at the platform area. He informed the Station Manager, Mr Izhar Bin Mohamed Ibrahim who saw the man taking upskirt video of a female commuter. Together, they detained the man till Police’s arrival.
Cases Commended for Public Spiritedness Award
In the first case, on 26 March 2022, Mr Lee Kangjun Clayderman was onboard the east-bound East West Line train when he saw a man taking close-up photos of a female commuter’s cleavage. He then escorted the man out of the train and detained him till Police’s arrival.
In the second case, on 14 August 2022, Mr Pandiyan Sethuprivan, a Community Watch Scheme (Riders-on-Watch) volunteer saw a male commuter suffering from fits while onboard the East-West Line train. He immediately stepped forward to render assistance, and tended to the commuter till the arrival of ambulance services.
Launch of Outrage of Modesty Video
TransCom will be launching the Outrage of Modesty Education Video on 12 October 2022 to spread crime prevention awareness to commuters on the importance of alerting the Police immediately if they are victims of crime or had witnessed a crime. The video will be broadcasted at the MRT stations and onboard trains.
TransCom Standee
To enhance commuters’ awareness of TransCom officers patrolling in the public land transport network, a new standee will be placed at selected MRT stations to strengthen police presence and to disseminate crime prevention advisories.
Deputy Assistant Commissioner of Police Masagoes Idris Masagoes Hussain, Commander of Public Transport Security Command, expressed his appreciation to the award recipients for their public spiritedness in making the public land transport network a safer and more secure place to commute. He said, “These selfless acts by our commuters are extremely commendable. Their actions bear testimony of the strong partnership that we have with our public transport stakeholders in protecting the public land transport network against crime.”
