Conclusion Of 23rd Edition Of Delta League (December 2022) & Launch Of Singapore Police Force’s New Anti-Scam Card Game: ‘Scambusters’

The Singapore Police Force (SPF) and the National Crime Prevention Council (NCPC) jointly organised the Delta League December 2022 Edition tournament this year from 25 November 2022 to 22 December 2022. Minister of State, Ministry of Home Affairs & Ministry of Social and Family Development, Ms Sun Xueling, graced the Grand Finals as the Guest of Honour (GOH). The event was held on Thursday, 22 December 2022, at Our Tampines Hub.

Since June 2011, the Delta League has engaged youths meaningfully through sports during the school holidays in June and December. The Delta League programme continues to bring back the popular football component to complement the increasingly popular e-gaming to ensure sustained engagement with the diverse youth population.

For this edition, a total of 168 teams, formed by more than 1,200 youths aged between 13 and 17, pitted their wits and skills over either football or e-gaming. Seventy-six  teams participated in the football tournament under three different categories – Category 1: Boys 13-14yrs, Category 2: Boys 15-17yrs and Girls’ Open Category. As for the e-gaming tournament, 96 teams competed against one another in the Mobile Legends: Bang-Bang (MLBB) game under the Open Category (13-17yrs). Both formats demand strong tactical abilities, planning, adaptation, and teamwork from all the participants.

Besides their participation in the football and e-gaming competition, the youths were also involved in different fun-filled activities to enhance their crime prevention awareness as well as inculcate a sense of social responsibility, teamwork, and discipline. The Community Day and Youth Workshop was held at the Kreta Ayer People’s Theatre on 25 November 2022. Two key issues were pre-identified to engage these young participants: Staying Away from Gangs and Anti-Scam Awareness. During the workshop, sharing sessions were conducted with the youths on gang issues, scam awareness, good cybersecurity practices and soccer tactics. Participants also went out onto the streets with their Police mentors to share crime prevention materials and tips with members of the public.

The SPF looks forward to engaging the youths and seeing new faces in the next edition of Delta League in June 2023.

LAUNCH OF SPF’S NEW ANTI-SCAM CARD GAME: ‘SCAMBUSTERS’

In conjunction with the Delta League Grand Finals, the GOH for the event, Minister of State Sun Xueling, and Director (Covering), Community Partnership Department of SPF, Superintendent of Police Lee Kheng Hong, co-launched SPF’s new anti-scam card game – ‘ScamBusters’, as part of SPF’s novel approach to gamify youth outreach on crime prevention.

‘ScamBusters’ was co-developed by the SPF with students from the Media, Arts & Design School of Singapore Polytechnic. It is a multi-player card game which introduces players to the different types of scams and requires players to have a good understanding of scams to win. Players need to race to use “technique cards” to add up to the exact number indicated on “scam cards” and recite the corresponding anti-scam actions correctly to be considered a successful counter. The players’ main objective is to counter the most scam cards by the end of the game to emerge as the winner.

‘ScamBusters’ will be distributed island-wide to all primary, secondary, and tertiary schools, including polytechnics and universities. A total of 15,500 game sets will be distributed to 385 schools by the end of January 2023. In addition, members of the public can also stand to get their hands on the ‘ScamBusters’ set by joining the Neighbourhood Police Centres’ (NPCs) upcoming physical outreach and engagement activities.

As part of the launch, 20 sets of the games were given out to winners of the Delta League December 2022 Edition.
