Man Arrested For Voluntarily Causing Hurt By Dangerous Weapon Or Means

The Police have arrested a 36-year-old man for his alleged involvement in a case of voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapon or means, and will be charging him on 2 January 2023. The arrest was made within three hours of the report.

On 31 December 2022 at about 4.54pm, the Police received calls of a man who allegedly injured two other men at the vicinity of Blk 372 Jurong East Avenue 1. Through ground enquiries and with the aid of images from police cameras, officers from Clementi Police Division established the identity of the man and arrested him on the same day along Jurong East Avenue 1.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the 36-year-old man was at the vicinity of Blk 337 Jurong East Avenue 1 where he approached a 44-year-old man and punched him several times. Subsequently, the 36-year-old man approached another 47-year-old man at the vicinity of Blk 339 Jurong East Avenue 1 and hit him on his right shoulder from the rear with a pair of scissors. Thereafter the man approached a 15-year-old teenager who managed to run off and call the Police. The 15-year-old teenager did not report any injuries. The 44-year-old man sustained injuries but refused conveyance to the hospital, while the 47-year-old man was conveyed conscious to the hospital. All three victims are unknown to the man.

A pair of scissors which was purportedly used during the incident was seized. Police investigations are ongoing.

The 36-year-old man will be charged in court on 2 January 2023 with voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons or means under Section 324 of the Penal Code 1871. The offence carries an imprisonment term of up to seven years, a fine, caning, or any combination of such punishments. A court order will be sought for the man to be remanded at the Institute of Mental Health.

The Police will not tolerate such brazen acts of violence and blatant disregard of the law. We will spare no effort to apprehend and deal with them in accordance with the law.
