Airport Police Division (APD) launched the Airport Workers on Watch interest-based group at Crowne Plaza, Changi Airport Hotel on 21 February 2023. The event was graced by Deputy Commissioner of Police (Operations) DCP Lian Ghim Hua.
Key aviation stakeholders from Changi Airport Group (CAG), Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore (CAAS), Ministry of Transport (MOT) and Immigration & Checkpoints Authority (ICA) as well as more than 100 airport workers from various airport organisations attended the launch.
Airport Workers on Watch
The AWOW is an interest-based group under the ambit of the SPF Community Watch Scheme (CWS). Through this, APD seeks to reach out and work with individual airport workers on the ground to ensure the safety and security of our airports.
The AWOW volunteers will receive targeted crime and security information and advisories from APD. This will allow them to be aware of the prevailing crime and security trends in the airports.
The AWOW volunteers will also have the opportunity to be invited to participate in Police-related programmes such as security and crime prevention talks, seminars and trainings to enhance their vigilance to detect and report on suspicious persons and activities, crime and aviation security threats.
Assistant Commissioner of Police Alvin Chong, Commander of Airport Police Division said: “The safety and security of Singapore airports should not be taken for granted. The Airport Workers On Watch programme will enable the larger airport community to come together in partnership with the Police to continue to ensure the safety and security of our airports.”
