There has been a change of command at Traffic Police (TP).
Senior Assistant Commissioner of Police (SAC) Daniel Tan assumed the command of TP on 15 May 2023. SAC Tan has taken over from outgoing Commander, SAC Gerald Lim Han Ming (林 汉 明), who concluded 33 years of distinguished service to the Singapore Police Force (SPF) on the same day.
SAC Tan, 51, joined the SPF in 1997. He has served 26 years with the SPF and has held several key appointments including Deputy Commissioner of Prisons (Policy and Transformation), Director of SPF Planning & Organisation Department, Deputy Director of SPF Operations Department, Commander of Central Police Division, Deputy Commander of Security Command and Deputy Director (Risk & Technology) of the Monetary Authority of Singapore.
SAC Lim, 61, who was appointed Commander TP on 14 June 2018, joined the SPF in 1990. In his 33 years with the SPF, he has held several key appointments including Commander of Clementi Police Division, Commander of Public Transport Security Command, Assistant Director of the Major Crime Division at Criminal Investigation Department (CID), Assistant Director of the Bomb & Explosive Investigation Division at the CID and Deputy Commander of Tanglin Police Division.
As Commander TP, SAC Lim led TP to improve the road traffic situation, keeping Singapore roads safe for road users. The road traffic fatality rate per 100,000 population continued to be on the general downward trend from 2018 to 2022. Under SAC Lim’s leadership, TP enhanced its operational capabilities and embarked on a slew of digitalisation initiatives that were in line with Singapore’s Smart Nation initiative. TP procured new expressway patrol cars and motorcycles to enhance officers’ operational capabilities and safety, and new equipment, such as the Average Speed Camera, to enhance TP’s enforcement capability.
During his tenure, TP also revamped the public engagement and road safety efforts. TP launched the Digital Driving Licence on 7 March 2022, the online Mock Theory Test on 31 March 2023 and will be trialling the Intelligent Driving Circuit in June 2023.
Reflecting on his years in the SPF, SAC Lim said, “I joined the Police Force for one reason – To be able to pay it forward, do things that help people, and make Singapore a safer place to live in for everyone.”
