The Singapore Police Force (SPF) and the National Crime Prevention Council jointly organised the Delta League tournament this year from 29 May to 24 June 2023. Minister of State, Ministry of Home Affairs & Ministry of Social and Family Development, Ms Sun Xueling attended the Grand Finals as the Guest of Honour. The event was held on Saturday, 24 June 2023, at the Singapore University of Technology and Design.

This is the 24th edition of the Delta League since June 2011, where sports is used to engage youths and keep them meaningfully occupied during the school holidays in June and December. The Delta League continues to feature the popular football component alongside the increasingly popular e-sports gaming competition to sustain engagement with different segments of the youth population.

For this edition, 129 teams, comprising about 1,000 youths aged between 13 and 17, pitted their wits and skills over football or e-gaming. 74 teams participated in the football tournament under three different categories – Category 1: Boys 13-14 years old, Category 2: Boys 15-17 years old and Girls’ Open Category. For the e-gaming tournament, 55 teams competed against one another in the Mobile Legends: Bang-Bang (MLBB) game under the Open Category (13-17 years old). Both formats demand strong tactical abilities, planning, adaptation, and teamwork from all the participants.

Besides their participation in the football and e-gaming competitions, the youths were also involved in different fun-filled activities to raise their awareness of crime prevention measures and inculcate a sense of social responsibility, teamwork and discipline. Instead of a lecture-based Youth Workshop, this edition of Delta League started with an Amazing Race at the Singapore SportsHub on 29 May 2023. This allowed the youths to be exposed to team-building activities and crime prevention education in a different manner.

As part of the Community Day activities component of the programme, the youths were brought to the Police Community Road Shows on 17-18 June 2023 at One Punggol and 24-25 June 2023 at Toa Payoh HDB Hub. At these roadshows, the participants also worked with their Police Mentors to share crime prevention materials and tips with members of the public.

Senior Staff Sergeant Tan Tuan Wang (SSS Tan) had participated in the Delta League December 2013 edition, and subsequently joined the SPF as a Direct Entry Sergeant. He is now mentoring  Bluelock FC – a team that is participating in the Football’s Boys Category 2 Team activity. SSS Tan wanted to be involved in the Delta League community to engage and share his experience with youths participating in the programme, and was officially appointed as a Delta League Police Mentor in May 2023. As  Delta League participant and a police officer now, SSS Tan has seen firsthand, the benefits of the programme in educating and inculcating values in our youths. “As a Police Mentor and a past Delta League participant, I can relate to my team better as I share my experiences and the things I have learnt from being a participant in the Delta League previously.” Watch SSS Tan share his story on Delta League’s Facebook Page [link].
