Man Charged For Voluntarily Causing Grievous Hurt, Voluntarily Causing Hurt And Intentional Harassment

The Police will be charging a 51-year-old man for allegedly voluntarily causing grievous hurt, voluntarily causing hurt and intentional harassment.

On 29 May 2022 at about 7.20pm, the Police were alerted to a case of dispute between an e-bike rider and a taxi driver along Balestier Road. Preliminary investigations revealed that the e-bike rider had collided into the rear left passenger door of the taxi after the taxi passenger had opened the door. During the confrontation, the e-bike rider allegedly hurled vulgarities towards the taxi driver and punched the taxi driver’s face, causing his nose to bleed profusely. The e-bike rider had also allegedly picked up a metal bin and attempted to hit the taxi driver. The e-bike rider was subsequently arrested.

The 51-year-old e-bike rider will be charged in court on 3 July 2023 with voluntarily causing grievous hurt under Section 325 of the Penal Code 1871, voluntarily causing hurt under Section 323 of the Penal Code 1871 and intentional harassment under Section 3(2) of the Protection from Harassment Act 2014.

The offence of voluntarily causing grievous hurt carries an imprisonment term of up to 10 years, a fine or caning. The offence of voluntarily causing hurt carries an imprisonment term of up to three years, or a fine of up to $5000, or both. The offence of intentional harassment carries an imprisonment term of up to six months, or a fine of up to $5000, or both.

The Police take a serious view of violent offences committed in public. Those who endanger the public’s sense of safety and security will be dealt firmly.
