Two Persons Arrested For Possession Of Multiple Weapons, Controlled Items And Other Contrabands At Woodlands Checkpoint

The Police have arrested a 40-year-old man for offences of importing of arms without licence and carrying of offensive weapons in public places.

On 28 June 2023 at about 3.15pm, an Immigration & Checkpoints Authority (ICA) officer stationed at Woodlands Checkpoint profiled and referred a Malaysia-registered car for enhanced checks. The male passenger was purportedly found to be in possession of 10 batons, two stun devices, 10 e-cigarettes, five packets of contraband cigarettes and three boxes of sexual enhancement pills. Another passenger, a 31-year-old woman, was arrested for an offence of consorting with persons carrying offensive weapons in public places.

The case was referred to the Police and investigations are ongoing.

The Police would like to remind members of the public that importing of any arms is strictly prohibited by law. The offence of importing any gun, arms, explosives, poisonous or noxious gas or noxious substance under Section 13(2) of the Arms and Explosive Act 1913 carries an imprisonment term of up to three years and a fine of up to $10,000.

The offence of carrying offensive weapons in public places and consorting with persons carrying offensive weapons in public places under Section 6(1) and Section 8(1) of the Corrosive and Explosive Substances and Offensive Weapons Act 1958 carries an imprisonment term of up to three years and caning of not less than six strokes.

Safeguarding Singapore’s borders remains a top priority for ICA. The ICA will continue to conduct security checks at the checkpoints and work with law enforcement agencies to prevent attempts to smuggle undesirable persons, weapons, explosives, controlled drugs and other contrabands across our borders.

The authorities will not tolerate any illegal activities as we strive to safeguard our land, air and sea borders against crime and security threats, including smuggling activities and non-compliance with our regulations.
