The Police are investigating three men, aged between 36 and 74, for their suspected involvement in illegal gambling activities.

On 13 August 2023, officers from Woodlands Police Division conducted enforcement operations against illegal gambling activities in the vicinity of Yishun Street 22. A 36-year-old man was arrested for allegedly acting as a bookmaker and two men, aged 72 and 74, are assisting in investigations for allegedly placing bets with the bookmaker. Cash amounting to more than $630, one mobile phone and one tablet were seized.

Under the Gambling Control Act 2022, anyone who is found to be involved in unlawful betting operations shall be liable on conviction to a fine not exceeding $200,000 and shall also be punished with imprisonment for a term of up to five years. Under the same Act, any person who gambles with an unlicensed gambling service provider shall be liable on conviction to a fine not exceeding $10,000, imprisonment for a term not exceeding six months, or both.

The Police take a serious view against all forms of illegal betting activities and members of the public are advised to steer clear of such activities. Individuals found to be involved in such illicit activities will be dealt with in accordance with the law.
