The Police have arrested a 26-year-old man for his suspected involvement in a series of cheating cases.

On 7 September 2023, the Police received several reports from victims who lost more than SGD$108,000 in a scam perpetrated by the man who was a salesperson with a local vehicle dealer. After striking the vehicle purchase agreements with these victims, the man allegedly instructed them to make payments by transferring their monies into a bank account which he claimed to belong to his company. Unbeknownst to the victims, the bank account belonged to the man and no payments were made to his company.

Through follow-up investigations, officers from Woodlands Police Division arrested the man on 8 September 2023 at the vicinity of Jurong West Street 52 within 12 hours of the first report.

The man will be charged in court on 9 September 2023 for the offence of cheating under Section 420 of the Penal Code 1871. The offence carries an imprisonment term of up to 10 years and a fine.
