The Police have arrested a 51-year-old man for his suspected involvement in a case of theft from vehicle.
On 8 September 2023, the Police received a report of a vehicle being broken into in the vicinity of Havelock Road. Valuables including a mobile phone and cashcard with a stored value of $200 were allegedly stolen.
Through follow-up investigations and with the aid of images from Police cameras and CCTV footage, officers from Central Police Division established the identity of the man and arrested him on 13 September 2023. The man is believed to be involved in other similar cases of theft from vehicles. Four cashcards were seized as case exhibits.
The man will be charged in court on 15 September 2023 with theft from vehicle under Section 379 of the Penal Code 1871. The offence carries an imprisonment term of up to three years, a fine+, or both.
The Police would like to advise members of the public to adopt the following precautionary measures:
- Secure the windows and doors of your vehicle at all times;
- Install an anti-theft alarm system;
- Do not leave cash and valuables such as cashcards, laptops, handphones, briefcase or wallets in your vehicle and;
- Look around the vicinity for suspicious characters before leaving. If you see any suspicious characters, do take note of their appearance, clothing, height, or any other distinctive physical features and inform the Police for assistance.
