Man Arrested Within Two Hours For Possession Of Scheduled Weapons And Drug-Related Offences

The Police have arrested a 49-year-old man for his suspected involvement in a case of possession of scheduled weapons in a public place and drug-related offences.

On 28 October 2023, the Police received a report of a video posted on social media showing a man wielding a samurai sword in public. Preliminary investigations revealed that the video was uploaded on the man’s social media page.

Through follow-up investigations, officers from Central Police Division established the identity of the man and arrested him at a residential unit along York Hill within two hours of the report. A raid was conducted at the man’s residence and more scheduled weapons and drug paraphernalia were discovered and seized.

The man will be charged in court on 30 October 2023 with possession of scheduled weapons punishable under Section 7(1) of the Corrosive and Explosive Substances and Offensive Weapons Act 1958. The offences of carrying a scheduled weapon in a public place otherwise than for a lawful purpose carries an imprisonment term of up to five years and at least six strokes of cane. Investigations are on-going.

The Central Narcotics Bureau is investigating into the drug-related offences.

The Police have zero tolerance towards such brazen acts and will not hesitate to act against those who blatantly disregard the law.
